Southern Heaven
Having been raised in the South, I have eaten grits just about any place that serves them -- from Dobbs House "mush" to Frank Stitts' elegant "Baked Grits with Wild Mushrooms and Garnish" (Highland's Bar&Grill in Birmingham). I was exposed to this particular variety in my 20's at Callaway Gardens, in the Columbus, GA area, and I thought they were wonderful. The texture was unlike any other, and the flavor was divine. I now live in California, where grits(white corn meal) are often mistaken for polenta(coarse yellow corn meal). It has given me a great deal of pleasure to share these gems with my friends and, at the same time, do a little "educatin'" at the same time. Even my wife's family, 5th generation Califonians, insist that these grits be included in our Christmas repast. I heartily recommend them.
